Morocco adopted its first National Action Plan in 2022.  According to the announcement of the NAP’s launch, the plan is a “concrete manifestation of the will of Morocco’s commitment to gender equality as well as its conviction that the Women, Peace and Security agenda is an essential component of maintaining international peace and security.” The NAP is part of Morocco’s commitment to “a multilateralism based on action…which translates into concrete initiatives to meet the needs of the most vulnerable”. 

The NAP contains concrete commitments in the areas of preventive diplomacy and peacekeeping, the promotion of a culture of peace, and the empowerment of women. 

In terms of NAP development, according to the announcement press release, the process began in June 2019, “led by an Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Defense Administration, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and the Family, the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights, and the National Commission on International Humanitarian Law. The process of elaborating the Plan was conducted in collaboration with the Rabat Office of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).”

The NAP will be analyzed when publicly available.
