The Government of Uganda has taken a deliberate policy for empowerment of women through affirmative action initiatives.
Uganda developed a NAP for the national implementation of UNSCR1325, 1820 and the Goma Declaration on Eradicating Sexual Violence and Ending Impunity in the Great Lakes Region (Goma Declaration) in 2008.
Women activists in Uganda continue to work towards highlighting and addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence, and advancing policies, laws and practices that promote gender equality, women’s human rights and peacebuilding and conflict prevention in the region.
